OpenAI prepares to host its third annual developer conference, DevDay 2025, on October 6 at Fort Mason in San Francisco. The event promises to be a showcase of OpenAI’s growing influence in the tech industry, with over 1,500 attendees expected, including keynotes from OpenAI executives and a fireside chat between CEO Sam Altman and Apple’s former design chief Jony Ive.
The conference kicks off at 10 a.m. PT with an opening keynote by Altman, who will unveil new announcements, live demos, and share his vision for the future of AI. The keynote will be livestreamed on OpenAI’s YouTube page, making it accessible to a global audience. For in-person attendees, the day features a lineup of presentations and talks from industry leaders, including Cursor CEO Michael Truell, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, and Andreessen Horowitz investing partner Kimberly Tan.
OpenAI faces increasing competition from tech giants like Google, Meta, and Anthropic, which have made significant strides in AI development. In response, OpenAI has been working on several ambitious projects, including an AI-powered browser, a social media app, and an AI device. These initiatives aim to challenge established players like Google’s Chrome and expand OpenAI’s market presence.
At the first DevDay in 2023, OpenAI introduced GPT-4 Turbo and the concept of the GPT Store, a marketplace for AI agents. Despite a brief leadership shakeup, Altman returned as CEO and the company continued to push forward. Last year, the conference was more subdued, focusing on incremental updates such as an API for AI voice applications.
Rumors abound about potential announcements at this year’s event. OpenAI may provide updates on the AI-powered browser, the AI device, or the GPT Store. The company also plans to feature a series of AI-powered sideshows, including “Sora Cinema,” an immersive experience that showcases the latest in AI-driven entertainment.
For those unable to attend in person, the opening keynote will be the only part of the event livestreamed. However, TechCrunch will be on the ground providing live coverage and updates throughout the day.
