Fiverr Embraces AI Transformation to Redefine Freelance Economy Dynamics

Fiverr, the global freelance platform, announces a significant shift towards becoming an AI-first organization. The company plans to reduce its workforce by 30% to streamline operations and reinvest in new growth areas, aiming for a long-term adjusted EBITDA margin of 25% by 2026.

Strategic Reset for AI-Driven Growth

CEO Micha Kaufman explains that this decision is not due to financial distress but a strategic pivot. The goal is to transform Fiverr into a leaner, faster, and more efficient organization. 'We believe we don’t need as many people to operate the existing business,' Kaufman writes in his letter to staff.

AI-Powered Innovations

Fiverr is already leveraging AI across its operations. Initiatives like Neo, an AI-powered project matching tool, and Fiverr Go, a personalized AI for creators, are delivering tangible results. Customer support resolution times have dropped, and marketplace integrity and fraud detection have improved through machine learning.

Empowering Creators with AI

Kaufman emphasizes that AI will not replace human creativity but enhance it. 'AI won’t replace human creativity, but it’ll make it stronger and allow freelancers to scale their unique talents while maintaining control over their work,' he says. This vision aligns with broader trends in the technology sector, where AI is increasingly seen as an enhancer of human capability rather than a replacement.

Industry Context and Impact

Other tech giants, such as Salesforce, are also embracing AI to handle a significant portion of their work. CEO Marc Benioff notes that AI now manages 30% to 50% of the work at Salesforce, from engineering to customer service and marketing. This 'digital labor revolution' is reshaping how companies operate, with AI systems handling customer inquiries with 93% accuracy, as reported by Business Insider.

Rewriting Platform Economics

Fiverr’s move is part of a larger trend in AI adoption. The company aims to free up resources to speed up innovation, using AI throughout its infrastructure to link freelancers with projects and ensure quality and trust. 'Fifteen years ago, we built Fiverr to change how the world works together. Today, AI is changing that landscape, and we’re rebuilding to lead that change instead of just reacting to it,' Kaufman reflects.
